Meet the HGS divers

Last week Rosie, Isla and Tom from the Harrogate Diving Club, competed in  the G-Star  competition at the John Charles Aquatics centre in Leeds. The event is held annually in Leeds and considered to be the toughest of the domestic club invite competitions. There were 15 British clubs competing as well as divers from Ireland, Sweden, Canada and South Africa. Sadly none of them won, but they tried there best.   Follow this  link if you want more  information about the Harrogate Diving Club or are interested in joining them.

Breaking News: Skye Wins National Taekwondo Championship

Breaking news Skye Donoghue wins National Taekwondo Championships.

picSkye (7RRF) competed in the nationals on the 26 March in Coventry and came first in her age group.  Over 1000 people competed in the tournament. To win she beat two thirteen year and two twelve year old girls,  even though she was actually ill that weekend! Her inspiration is Jade Jones who she wants to emulate by becoming Olympic champion.  If you didn’t already know Jade Jones is a Welsh Taekwondo athlete who represented Team GB at the 2012 Summer Olympics.  She won Britain’s first ever Taekwondo gold medal in the women’s 55kg category.

Skye has been doing  martial arts since the age of three including Kick Boxing  MMA (Mixed martial arts), Points Karate and Judo. Originally she was inspired by the Power Rangers and still has all her old kit.  The reason she decided to focus on Taekwondo was because it is in the Olympics and she wants to one day win a gold medal. To become champion she had to win 5 fights, including two semi-finals and the final. Next Skye is going to the World Championships in Coventry. What you may find hard to believe is that Skye only competed in her first Taekwondo event in September, but she was very prepared with a second degree black belt already on her record.   She trains an hour and a half every night except Sunday and she trains at the GABT in Leeds. But if she wants to be an Olympic contender she has another 60,000 people to compete with. Best of luck Skye!!

Girls Football Wanted!!

Girls playing Soccer.

Girls should be allowed to play football because it is fun and a great sport to play. If boys are allowed to play football then so should we, girls. We have just as much right to play football as the boys. Whilst the school hasn’t banned girls football there aren’t any girls football clubs or teams.

I think we should encourage everyone to play sport and give them the chance to try out a different sports. Some Girls might not want to play football but some I’m sure many would like to try it.

In 2012 we should give girls the opportunity to play football as well.

We need more people!!!!!

I play for Beckwithshaw all Girls football team and we are in the York City league.  Two weeks ago we were at the top of the league after a sensational 9-1 win but since then its all been downhill.  As the weather got worse and Christmas approached we have struggled with our squad size. Two weeks ago  the game was cancelled  because of the weather.  Last week’s match had to be cancelled because we didn’t have enough players.  What we really all need is a few more energetic footballers, you will get a game as part of a winning team.

So if you are aged 11-13 get in contact.

Posters have been put around the school with all the information you need to join.

On Wednesday 21st November- Harrogate Grammar year 7 girls competed in a netball match against Ripon Grammar. Unfortunately we didn’t win but we came very close. The A team’s score was not as close as the B team’s score but we all still had a sense of achievement  Ripon Grammar had a  very tall goal shooter who scored a lot of goals very easily.

Will Chelsea go out?

Do you think Chelsea will go out in the first round of the champions league? If they do they will be the first team to have won the champions league and then exit the following seaon in the group stage. I don’t think they will go out not just because I support them but we are playing a team from Denmark called Nordsjaelland also Juventus are playing Shaktar Donetsk who will probably beat them and then if we win we will go to the next round. So what do you think?

Early cup exit for HGS seniors

HGS senior’s participation in the National cup came to an early and shocking conclusion with a 4-0 defeat by neighbours ST Aiden’s.

The start of an embarrassing evening for HGS began with early pressure from the home side, who failed to convert their chances. Despite some aggressive early challenges ST Aiden’s, refused to hide and continued to attack dangerously.

The first chance of the match arrived when an early mistake by the Aiden’s defence let Jake Hallet through on goal, his shot was well saved by the oncoming keeper. Despite the  positive start, St Aiden’s scored  only two minutes later after a pacey attack.  Keeper James Rule was unable to prevent their striker sliding the ball past him into the bottom corner. The goal scorer would continue to cause the HGS defence problems and on the seventeen minute mark he went through a second time.  Usin

g his blistering pace to race through the HGS defence he was only stopped by a large puddle inside the penalty box.  However the seniors luck was about to run out.  A few minutes later a free kick whipped in from the left hand side was nodded in at the far post.  Half time ended what was a shocking first half display HGS performance.  The team manger did not hold back his feelings during interval.

HGS came out positively in the second half and after fifty five minutes tricky winger Gareth Traynor was hauled down on the edge of the box.  Pleas for a penalty were waived away.   Despite this controversy Traynor had another chance to score when his powerful shot was tipped over by the Aiden’s keeper. It was clear to that the HGS did not intend to go down without a fight.

However the game was effectively over on 55 minutes when another header was not dealt with by the HGS defence, and was nodded in at the far post. The misery continued when with yet another poorly defended looping cross was headed in to make it 4-0  to the hosts. The match slowly came to end with little to mention apart from a promising shot from skilful midfielder Mikey Mossman.  For HGS the final whistle could not have come soon enough and they will be eager to put this terrible result behind them and focus on upcoming games.

british touring cars go to local crofts race course

On saturday 23rd – sunday 24th of june

The stars of Britain’s premier motor racing  championship are back at Croft! Honda ace Matt Neal won two of the three races  at Croft in 2011 on his way to the crown – can he do the same again in 2012 as  he seeks to equal Andy Rouse’s record of four titles? Two days of non-stop  bumper-to-bumper, fender-bending action featuring BTCC practice, qualifying and three races plus plenty more thrills and spills from the supporting  categories such as Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Ginetta GT Supercup, Ginetta Juniors  etc! Children 15 and under are admitted free to the  Circuit as long as accompanied by an adult.  A grandstand seat would also need to be purchased for Children.

it’s near Dalton-on-Tees in North Yorkshire, England.

the tickets cost around £13 – £78 which are quite cheap!
